Bristol residents who enjoy a takeaway but are after something a little different will be fully catered for with the launch of new company FoodCouriers on September 3rd.
The new online restaurant marketing and food delivery service, FoodCouriers, was founded in March 2012 by Dotun Olowoporoku. Aware of the popularity of existing online food delivery portals, Dotun’s aim was to offer home delivery with a difference.
“Many people in Bristol enjoy takeaway and home-delivered food as an alternative to cooking or eating out”, says Dotun, “but there seems to be a gap in the market. We’re aiming to open up opportunities for Bristol’s top restaurants to offer home delivery to their customers. FoodCouriers will take care of customer orders and delivery, leaving the restaurants to do what they do best: cook great food.”
Dotun’s commitment to environmental causes has also fed into his plans for FoodCouriers. “My background is in environmental research at UWE,” he says, “and my main research was to investigate how local authorities can integrate the management of air quality into their local transport plans.”
“Local businesses play a key role in this, and I wanted to champion some of the key applications of my research in the ‘real world’. We will be aiming to make most of our deliveries using low emission vehicles, such as electric bikes and electric motorbikes – we’re hoping to set the standard for how food and drink deliveries should be made in Bristol.”
FoodCouriers has already been providing food delivery services for 4 top restaurants in Bristol – Obento, Zen Harbourside, Dynasty and My Burrito – for more than 8 months. The business currently process an average of 90 food orders per week by sharing delivery drivers among its clients – thereby reducing the need for the restaurants to hire their own drivers.
Restaurants that have already signed up for the new service, launching on September 3rd, include Old India, Kathmandu, The Lanes, Warren’s Gourmet Burger Co. and The Burger Joint. Says Dan Bekhradnia, owner of Cotham Hill’s The Burger Joint, “We are excited to be working with this fantastic new business and are very pleased that people will now be able to enjoy our burgers without even having to leave their home.
With a pre-launch, discounted trial planned from August 13th, FoodCouriers will be officially launching on September 3rd. If you live in central Bristol, keep an eye out for a flyer through your letter box – and visit www.foodcouriers.co.uk to sign up for the mailing list for more details.
