A search for Bristol’s hidden attractions has been launched by the Vintage Inns group of country pubs.
The Vintage Guide to Britain aims to unearth the little-known but much-loved beauty spots, bizarre local customs, dishes and must-see sites from the area. Vintage Inns is inviting people to submit their hidden treasures, which will be collected on the group’s Facebook page and website.
Sharon Busby of The Dovecote pub in Ashton Road, Bristol said: “Bristol has some amazing attractions and we are keen to celebrate and share them.
“Whether it’s an ancient local tradition, fantastically idiosyncratic little shop, a long-abandoned yet beautiful Victorian folly or a walk that takes your breath away in more ways than one, we want to hear about it.”
The submissions will be used to create the Vintage Guide to Britain, which will take the form of an interactive map, offering users a valuable resource when planning days out.
“I would submit John Horwood, who local historians and those with an interest in the macabre will know of. He was hanged for murder at Bristol’s New Gaol on 13 April 1821 and the surgeon who dissected him had John’s skin tanned – to bind a book!” Sharon added.
Submissions can be made until the end of July and the top 10 will go to a vote among the Facebook community, with a grand prize for the winning entry.
