“It’s National Apple Day on Friday, October 21, so, let’s
celebrate the West Country’s tastiest apples” – that’s the message
from Source, Bristol’s city centre food hall and café at St Nicholas
Market in Exchange Avenue.

“The West Country growers have some of the best apples in the
country,” says Joe Wheatcroft, co-owner of Source. ”And it’s thanks
to local farmers and producers who take time, using traditional methods,
to make our apples, ciders and juices so good – it’s worth
celebrating not just on Apple Day – but every day.”

To mark National Apple Day, Source will be offering an apple-themed
menu in the café from rich, cider-based sauces to co-owner Liz Carrads’
sweet apple desserts. For shoppers, they can select from locally
produced ciders and juices, including Pilton Cider and Bradley’s Apple
Juice from Box Bush Farm in Somerset. There will also be organic apples
on sale from local orchards and everyone making a purchase in the food
hall will receive a free apple.

“Apple Day is a national day of celebration,” continues Joe.
“It’s a chance to celebrate great British varieties, such as
the Newton Wonder, Blenheim Orange, Tom Putt and John Standish. It is
also a chance to think about local orchards and growers and the ways we
can support them.”

· Apple Day is an annual event has been running for the last 21
years and aims to promote all aspects of enjoying apples, celebrates the
amazing variety of apples grown in the UK as well as highlighting the
importance of preservation of our country’s orchards.
