New Restaurant, opening March: The Runcible Spoon

Spread the love

Four young Bristol cooks and gardener behind one of Bristol’s 2010 pop-up restaurants are now teaming up in a more permanent venture, opening restaurant The Runcible Spoon in early March.

Located in the former site of Café Kino on Ninetree Hill, the restaurant aims to serve healthy, well-balanced, affordable Modern British food. The menus are designed to be truly seasonal, with ingredients sourced from local small-scale growers.

The restaurant is working in conjunction with The Fat Of The Land, an ongoing permaculture project located in farmland near Bristol. Co-op members and volunteers will be providing The Runcible Spoon with fresh organic produce, and the long-term aim is for the project to be completely self-sufficient.

Dishes at the restaurant will change on a daily basis, and everything that is served in the restaurant – including chutneys, pickles, bread and handcured meats and fish – will be made on the premises. At lunchtimes (£3-£10) and in the evenings (£5-£15) a set menu of one to three courses will be served, with Banquet Night on a Saturday: a single-sitting multi-course menu priced at only £25 per head.

Sunday lunchtimes wouldn’t be the same without a Sunday roast, and The Runcible Spoon will be offering just that: a one to three course meal (£9-£15) which will be carved at the table. All set menus will offer both vegetarian and vegan options.

Wines are sourced from a small, family-run vineyard in the south of France. Somerset ciders will be available by the jug, and the team will also be serving local ales and homemade “foraged” liqueurs such as sloe gin and damson eau de vie.

The venue is due to open in early March, with opening hours of 11am-11pm Tuesday-Friday, 11am-midnight on Saturday, and 12-6pm on Sundays (closed on Mondays). Considering the success of the pop-up restaurant team, I’m expecting good things of this place. Keep an eye on the website (link below) for more information…
