Bath & West Banger: Sausage creators needed!

Are you a creative foodie who dreams of having their products sold to the public? If so, it’s worth dusting off your creative hat for Royal Bath And West and Westaways’ banger-based competition…

Award-winning West Country sausage manufacturer Westaways and The Royal Bath And West Society are looking for South West-based food lovers to create a brand new limited edition sausage flavour, which will be exclusively produced for the 2011 Bath & West show.

Alan Lyons, Bath & West show manager, says, “This is a fun initiative that we are fully expecting to capture people’s imagination. The idea is to create a one-off sausage that encapsulates the essence of the Royal Bath & West show. We are looking for ideas that include local ingredients and produce that is synonymous with the South West and we’re also looking for something unique that has never been done before. Ultimately though, the flavour must have broad appeal so we’re asking people to balance creativity with workability.”

Owner and managing director of Westaways, Charles Baughan, adds, “We have been supporting the Bath & West for many years and over those years, the show’s foodie credentials have continued to rise as more and more high quality, local food producers choose to exhibit. Westaways is passionate about raising the profile of South-West produce both in the region and beyond and I believe that a quirky idea like this helps achieve this.”

A shortlist of four or five varieties will be created, and these will be produced by Westaways for the panel – including Baughan and a selection of chefs and food producers – to test before deciding on a winner. The winning sausage will be commercially produced, and will be available in supermarkets across the South West between May and September 2011.
