If my previous post suggesting restaurant vouchers as a gift for foodie friends didn’t appeal, then why not check out the range of hampers – both ready-made and tailor-made – available to purchase in Bristol?
On Park Street, the Bristol Guild Food Hall is stocked with a variety of products including chutneys, chocolates, cider and coffee. Hamper baskets can be bought in-store and filled with the produce of your choice. A minimum spend level does apply, but as far as I’m aware, this is only around the £30 mark.
Clifton’s Papadeli offers hampers in four sizes, ranging from £50 to £150. You can choose from a range of themed hampers, or select what you want to include and they’ll make up the hamper for you. The hampers page on their website highlights the vast array of Christmas-themed products that they normally stock, including panettone, pink Prosecco, mini mince pies, stollen and fig balls.
Arch House Deli in Clifton Village also offer a hamper service, with baskets of various styles individually tailored and gift wrapped to order. Hampers can be filled with a variety of both local and international food and drink, taking into account any preferences or allergies – or if you’re rushed for time, you can opt for a pre-made hamper from a range including “Chocoholics Heaven” and “Italian Delectables”. Either collect from the deli during normal opening hours, or have the hamper delivered (within Bristol!) for £7.50.
For a slightly different hamper, Bristol-based Mullion Cove, who specialise in Cornish food and drink, have created a range of hampers. All hampers are packaged in a fluted hamper tray, wrapped in cellophane and raffia, and come with a hand-written personalised message for the recipient. The range includes their Stargazey Hamper – a Christmas-themed hamper including items such as Christmas pudding, marmalade, tea, cranberry jelly, salami and mulled wine spice mix.
For a true taste of Bristol, the newly opened Bristol Cider Shop may be able to help. Located on the Christmas Steps, the retailer only opened its doors on December 1st but is well-prepared for those looking for gifts for cider lovers over the Christmas period. Owners Peter and Nick are making hampers to order: all you need to do is choose which items from the shop you’d like to include. In addition to a number of varieties of bottled cider, you can include cider brandy, cider vinegar, various chutneys and mustards with our favourite local drink included, books, t-shirts, Wurzels CDs and even pickled onions with cider!

Love your suggestions – it is so nice to see authentic wicker baskets with hampers – something that is losing popularity here in Australia, where many hampers are packed in cardboard boxes.
