An ice cream business from Bedminster, Bristol, has won a high profile ice cream pitch at Brandon Hill Park in Clifton, Bristol.
Brandon Hill Park is a destination park crowned by the well-known Cabot Tower and attracts a wide range of park users. It is especially popular with tourists and local office workers enjoying their lunch breaks.
The Vee Double Moo ice cream van, affectionately nicknamed Daisy, has become a regular feature at local markets and events and has built a loyal following by serving gourmet soft serve and frozen yogurt. Bridget Pilkington, 42, of Bedminster, started operating the ice cream van last year and has worked hard to establish a good reputation for delicious dairy treats of all sorts.
“I am thrilled to bits to have the opportunity to provide ice cream for visitors to Brandon Hill Park. It is such a historic and well known part of Bristol, and of course has the most amazing views of the city. I’ll be aiming to give my customers a top of the range ice cream experience with a few tables and chairs, newspapers to borrow and of course delicious things to eat. It’s quite a climb to the top of Brandon Hill but I’ll make sure it is worth the effort!”
The vintage VW van is distinctive in beige and sky blue cowprint livery and is one of only a handful of VW camper conversions to ice cream use in the UK.
Bridget serves award-winning soft serve made by Tarr’s of Brislington. “Tarr’s soft serve is really some of the best available and has been judged the Best in the UK Gold Medal Winner eight times since 2000, it is a bonus that it is made just down the road by a family company,” Bridget says. “I serve it with homemade sauces and inclusions such as brownie pieces, or in sundaes – Salted Caramel and Banana has been a big hit so far this year!”.
Bridget also plans to offer homemade frozen yogurt during the week. “Frozen yogurt has grown enormously in popularity in the UK recently and I take a great pride in making my own using organic milk and yogurt. It is low in fat and works well with granola or fresh fruit but also with delicious chocolate accompaniments like Oreo pieces, homemade brownie and dark chocolate sauce.”
Fairtrade tea and coffee, cold drinks from Lovely Drinks and homemade cakes will also be available from Daisy the Van. The van will be open Wednesday to Sunday 11am to 3pm and longer hours when the weather is good. The pitch is at the foot of Cabot Tower on the south west side of Brandon Hill.
